Obituary for Sister Joan Maria MICM

Sister Joan Maria  MICM
Still River-Sister Joan Maria Cobb, MICM, Sister of Saint Benedict Center, Slave of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, passed away peacefully at St. Ann’s House on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the age of 94.  She is survived by her sister, Sr. Ann Mary Cobb, MICM, their nephew and nieces, her Sisters and Brothers of Saint Benedict Center, and dear friends.  She is pre-deceased by her siblings: Eben Cobb and Marie MacKay.
Sr. Joan Maria was born in Clinton to the late Eben & Annie (Coyne) Cobb.  She graduated from the Clinton High School and obtained her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin.  Sister served in the US Coast Guard, SPARS, during WWII and later at the Pentagon, and then entered religious life as a Sister of Saint Benedict Center in 1951. Sr. Joan Maria lived her religious life with generosity, simplicity, candor and delightful humor in her unexpected remarks.  She worked in kitchen, the farm, the school, but especially in the Sisters’ missionary work, traveling the US with religious books and miraculous medals. Her great love was for Our Lord and His Blessed Mother and the Catholic Church.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10AM on Friday, May 18, 2018 at St. Ann’s Chapel, Sisters of Saint Benedict Center, 254 Still River Road, Still River, with burial to follow in Saint Benedict Abbey Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 2 until 7PM at St. Ann’s House, 254 Still River Road, Still River.  Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton.  Online condolences may be placed at www.philbincomeaufh.com
