Obituary for Rev. Paul F. O'Malley

Rev. Paul F.  O'Malley
Clinton-Rev. Paul F. O’Malley, S.S.C., 91, retired Priest of the Missionary Society of St. Columban, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Manor in Bristol, RI.  He is survived by his brother, Walter P. “Miz” O’Malley & wife Teresa of Clinton; niece Maureen Banks of Clinton; nephew, Kevin V. O’Malley of Boylston; great-niece and nephews, Beth, Daniel, Brendon, Brian, and Paul O’Malley, his brother priests and dear friends.  He is pre-deceased by his niece Kathleen O’Malley, nephew Paul F. O’Malley, and special cousin Barbara Sargent. 
Fr. Paul was born and raised in the Germantown neighborhood of Clinton, son of the late Walter J. & Lillian (Kappel) O’Malley.  He graduated from the Clinton High School, Class of 1944, and enlisted to proudly serve our nation in the United States Navy during WWII.  He was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and assigned to posts in Okinawa, Guam, and Pearl Harbor before being honorably discharged.  He returned home safely to continue studies and graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1949.  He then obtained his Masters degree in Education from Fitchburg State College and taught in the Boston Public School System before accepting his call to priesthood.  Rev. Paul O’Malley was ordained a priest on December 21, 1957 at Columbans Major Seminary by Bishop Jeremiah Minihan.  Throughout his 60 year ministry, Fr. O’Malley proudly served assignments in the Philippines, Jamaica, Norwich, CT, and Los Angeles, CA, before retiring to Clinton, and later to Bristol, RI.  Fr. Paul most enjoyed the blessings of life-long friendships that he established and maintained around the globe throughout his ministry.  Fr. O’Malley will lie in honor on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 5 until 7PM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton, with a Vigil Service to follow at 7PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Thursday, July 12, 2018 in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton.  Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster.  Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Rev.
