Joan Delores "Dee"  Schuffels (Zwirecki)
Lancaster-Joan D. “Dee” (Zwirecki) Schuffels, 83, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Leominster. She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John F. “Jack” Schuffels. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Colleen Boyd & Steven of Ansonia, CT; Barry Schuffels & Shari of Long Beach, CA; Christopher Schuffels & Beth of San Clemente, CA; Katrina Patten & Lloyd of Sterling; and Kurt Schuffels of Sterling; Daniela Squizzato, Micah Boyd, Hannah Gravrand, Stephanie, Casie, Stephen, Brian, and Brody Schuffels; 2 great-grandchildren, Delta and Dimitri Squizzato; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Dee was born in Utica, NY to the late John & Bertha (Borek) Zwirecki. She achieved her professional degree from Becker Junior College in Worcester and began her lifelong career as a medical secretary. Dee worked for the Clinton Hospital, later joined Hahnemann Hospital in Worcester and ultimately retired from the UMass Medical Center. She was actively involved with the Emblem Club, Red Hat Society, and Clinton Hospital Guild. Dee and Jack enjoyed their retirement years traveling extensively throughout the globe. She was happiest while in the company of her children and grandchildren and will be forever missed as their devoted family matriarch. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30AM on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 809 Main St., Lancaster, with burial to follow in North Village Cemetery, Lancaster. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St.,Clinton.
