Clinton-Gloria M. (Freeman) Shaughnessy, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Sterling Village. She is pre-deceased by her beloved husband Edward M. Shaughnessy. She is survived by her nine children & spouses, Winifred Hastings & Bernard; Martin Shaughnessy; Michael Shaughnessy & Mary Ann; and Richard Shaughnessy, all of Clinton; Patricia Welch & Paul of West Boylston; Daniel Shaughnessy & Gina of Worcester; Kathleen Lockney & Charles of Shrewsbury; Kevin Shaughnessy & Elizabeth of Rutland; and Edward Shaughnessy of ME; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; extended family, and many dear friends, notably Linda Marashio and Carol LaValley. She is pre-deceased by two brothers, Richard and Herbert “Anthony” Spencer. In addition to raising her large family, Gloria always opened her door and her heart to those who needed a home.
Gloria was born in Corona, NY to the late James & Anna (Mills) Freeman. She was later raised in Clinton, where she attended local schools. Gloria worked for many years in food service, as a cafeteria worker for Clinton Public and Tahanto Regional School systems, and as a server for Turini’s Catering, Mary’s Catering, and the Sterling Council on Aging. Gloria loved music, enjoyed the hobbies of reading and playing Scrabble, and always cherished her annual family Christmas parties. She was a woman of great faith and devout member of St. John the Guardian of Our Lady Parish in Clinton. Above all, Gloria was the dedicated matriarch of her family and a woman of great strength and character. The Shaughnessy family wish to thank the Corcoran House, Sterling Village, and Trinity Hospice for their tremendous support, care, and friendship. Funeral Services are to be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 from the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12PM iCan St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton. Calling hours will be from 4 until 7PM on Friday, December 21, 2018 in the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date in St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster.
